Returns the previous sibling that is an element, or nil if there is no Element sibling prior to this one 

 doc = Document.new '<a><b/>text<c/></a>'
 doc.root.elements['c'].previous_element          #-> <b/>
 doc.root.elements['b'].previous_element          #-> nil
